Slums of Beverly Hills (1998)
A broke father can't afford Beverly Hills, but is determined to send his three kids to the best public schools. So they become nomads, packing up in the middle of the night and slipping out of one cheap apartment into the next, never leaving the school district.
SLUMS OF BEVERLY HILLS (1998) is Tamara Jenkins telling the story of her own childhood. She grew up exactly this way, and made her first film about it, with a little help from Robert Redford's Sundance.
Natasha Lyonne plays fifteen-year-old girl Vivian, navigating her changing body, her hopeless-hopeful father (a wonderful Alan Arkin), and the arrival of her cousin Rita (Marisa Tomei), a glorious agent of chaos fresh out of rehab.

The DVD, and not much else. In the US it came out on a bare-bones Fox Searchlight DVD back in 1999, and that, remarkably, is still essentially it. There has never been a proper North American Blu-ray or restoration, so American collectors are stuck hunting the old, out-of-print DVD secondhand.
A German Blu-ray does exist for anyone with a region-free player, but this is a film crying out for the kind of loving boutique edition its indie peers have long since received.
Wonderful movie. I still want to live in an LA dingbat because of it 😉

“Slums of Beverly Hills” one of my all time favorite movies! Have it on DVD.
Caught it in the theater when it came out. Funny flick, and Tomei is great as the “cool Aunt”.
