Animal House is a beloved classic of American comedy. This isn't that. This is what Animal House looks like from the bottom of a ditch, looking up. Some people prefer the view from there.
KING FRAT (1979) was filmed in Miami and Coral Gables, Florida, at the studios of Great Southern Stage, and is set at the fictional Yellowstream University - a name that tells you everything you need to know about the film's ambitions: It's a low-budget, much lower-brow Animal House knockoff.
Its lead character is J.J. "Gross-Out" Gumbroski, played by John DiSanti, who went on to appear in *batteries not included. Roy Sekoff, one of the film's supporting cast members, later became a founding editor of The Huffington Post.
The film opens with Gross-Out breaking wind in the face of the college president during a jog, inducing a fatal heart attack. The Pi Kappa Delta fraternity then hotboxes the funeral with marijuana through the ventilation system. This happens in the first ten minutes.
The film culminates in a farting contest. A character is named Fartwell. Another is named Haemorrhoid.
The end credits thank the Miami Police Department, the Coral Gables Police Department, the Sweetwater Police Department, Mount Sinai Hospital, and Lee's Patio Florist.
The director of King Frat also made Shock Waves, the 1977 Nazi zombie underwater horror film. I’m not sure what that tells us, but there it is.

Shock Waves was a great movie. The image of Nazi zombies wading in the ocean is classic.
The movie was featured on The Cinema Snob, and is frequently referenced since then.
This movie was a formative experience for me as a young teen. One of the first R rated movies I ever saw. I can’t get through it now, but it sure made an impression on me then!
