A grieving young man spends his small inheritance on a trip to Italy. He falls in love with a woman, brilliant and beautiful, a little evasive. He begins to notice that something about her is not right. Maybe not even human.

SPRING (2014) is a real love story and a credible monster movie at the same time. Critics echoed the same unlikely description, Before Sunrise meets Lovecraft.

It was made by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who shot it themselves in Italy, and who have since gone on to direct big Marvel series like Loki and Moon Knight.

Underneath the tentacles and the transformations, Spring is about grief, and mortality, and the courage it takes to choose an ordinary human life, the kind that ends, over the alternative.
