A Detroit commercial studio owner with a lifelong interest in science fiction teamed up with an ad executive friend to write a movie neither of them had the budget to make. They found their production designer at a comic book convention.
B. K. Taylor, who worked on the look of the monsters and the alien civilization in MOONTRAP (1989), was aiming for something that recalled the George Pal science fiction films of the 1950s on a fraction of the money. Robert Dyke directed from a script he wrote with Tex Ragsdale.
The story follows a Space Shuttle crew who bring equipment back to Earth that begins malfunctioning in ways nobody can explain. Walter Koenig, known to audiences from Star Trek, and Bruce Campbell, already a cult figure from the Evil Dead films, lead the cast.
Shapiro-Glickenhaus Entertainment had planned a regional theatrical run, but the film went straight to video instead. It is a product of Midwestern ambition made by people who loved the genre.

This is an EXCELLENT film. Very hard-SF at times.
I love this movie! I saw it first time when I was boy.
It looked very impressive in an article published on it in Cinefantastique. Miniature effects look to be as good as those in ALIEN and STAR WARS.
