For over fifty years, Pink Floyd fans have loved OBSCURED BY CLOUDS, the warm, hypnotic record that arrived just before DARK SIDE OF THE MOON. Few of them have seen the film it was written for.

The album carries that title because the band fell out with the film's producers after the sessions and released the record as OBSCURED BY CLOUDS instead of using the movie's name. The film answered by folding the album's title into its own. That is how it came to be called LA VALLÉE (OBSCURED BY CLOUDS) (1972).

It was Barbet Schroeder's second feature, scored by Floyd for the second time after his debut More.

The wife of a French diplomat travels to Papua New Guinea to collect rare feathers and falls in with a band of hippie explorers. They search for a valley rumored to be paradise - a place on the map marked only as "obscured by clouds."

Cinematographer Néstor Almendros, later an Oscar winner for Days of Heaven (1979), made every frame glow.
