Becky (2020)
A fourteen-year-old girl discovers that she is far more dangerous than the escaped convicts who have taken her family hostage. She dispatches them using, among other things, a ruler, colored pencils, a boat propeller, and a key.
Simon Pegg was originally cast as the villain. He dropped out due to a scheduling conflict. His replacement was Kevin James.
The man from The King of Queens, the man from Paul Blart: Mall Cop, plays a tattooed neo-Nazi prison gang leader with a quiet, patient menace that may be the most committed piece of against-type casting since someone decided Henry Fonda should play a killer.
BECKY (2020) was directed by Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion, who had previously made Cooties and Bushwick, and was scheduled to premiere at Tribeca 2020 before the pandemic cancelled the festival.
It topped the box office in its opening weekend - an uncertain accomplishment given that most cinemas were still closed.
Lulu Wilson is extraordinary in it - and in its sequel The Wrath of Becky.
A third film is in the can, with Neil Patrick Harris as the villain, set at Hitler's Wolf's Lair in Poland. It is tentatively scheduled for summer 2026.
