CineCoup founder J. Joly has a background in digital marketing, software development, and film production. He brings all three of these disciplines together in a revolutionary new production model that is equal parts “Idol”-style popularity contest, business accelerator, and indie film studio.
Contestants compete in weekly tasks designed to prove the commercial viability of their movie pitches. Each production team works social media to build awareness for its film project, and to solicit votes. By the end of the process, one team is left standing – and is awarded $1,000,000 in production funds as well as a guaranteed theatrical run.
This past year’s winner was WolfCop, already a cult favorite with action figures and a sequel on the way. ComedyCoup – CineCoup’s first follow-up – promises $500,000 in production financing to create a half-hour prime time television special.
This has turned into a very big deal in Canada, and plans are underway to bring a version to the United States, Australia, and other countries.
